Annie and Kevin first met at freshman orientation the summer before starting their undergrad studies at UC Santa Barbara. Annie was waiting to cross the street with a couple of friends, and Kevin was doing the same. One of Annie’s friends introduced herself to Kevin, which led to additional introductions and the group spending the rest of the evening together. They didn’t keep in touch after orientation, but on move-in day, Annie was carrying belongings into her dorm room and spotted Kevin down the hall; it turned out he was just two doors down! They started as good friends with the other students in their dorm, but come Memorial Day weekend of freshman year, they started dating and have now been together for seven years!
When it came time to pop the question, Kevin had a hard time surprising Annie, but he sneakily chose the week BEFORE their six-year anniversary because he knew Annie would anticipate the proposal the following week instead. Kevin told her they had a family dinner to attend in La Jolla, but there was no dinner planned and he led her to a park overlooking the ocean. There, Annie found rose petals and champagne, and Kevin got down on one knee and asked Annie to marry him. The surprise worked — Annie was so confused because she really believed there was a dinner party! Nice moves, Kevin!
The happy couple originally planned to marry in August 2020 but decided to postpone to summer 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Annie and Kevin are looking forward to celebrating at Villa della Famiglia in the same town where they first met and fell in love — Santa Barbara, of course!
