The Hotel San Buena is now open and welcoming overnight guests as well as couples in search of a historic wedding venue in downtown Ventura, California. The stunning Spanish Colonial Revival building was constructed in 1928 and was formerly the home of Ventura’s Elks Lodge. Following the sale, the new owners had it declared a Ventura City Landmark, then got to work curating a beautiful hotel.
This boutique hotel, with 32 guest rooms, preserves many of the special touches of the former Elks Lodge. It was unveiled in 2023, after years of construction and design updates (and some pandemic-related delays).
There are several spaces ideal for hosting a wedding celebration, as well. Sonia Hopkins of Le Lieu Group collaborated with local wedding professionals to stage the hotel’s event areas, helping prospective couples envision how their celebrations could look.
Recollection Court
The Recollection Court, which is the front courtyard area that precedes the hotel lobby, is a lovely spot for either a ceremony or cocktail hour (or both!). Sharon from Knot Just Flowers decorated the space with spring blooms, complemented by Party Pleasers rentals and the hotel’s own King Louis chairs.
Centre Courtyard
Another beautiful space at Hotel San Buena is the Centre Courtyard. The aptly-named patio is situation between the two hotel buildings and offers a quiet, intimate spot for a wedding ceremony.
Velvet Hall
The perfect reception space, Velvet Hall is the grandest and most dramatic space offered by the hotel. With 3,300 square feet and tall, hand-stenciled beam ceilings, couples can host up to 150 guests for dinner and dancing. The built-in bar is a great amenity, and stained-glass windows and original architectural details make this ballroom an extra-special option for wedding receptions.
