We’re so excited to welcome one of our favorite makeup artists to the blog! Jenny from Blushing Beauty is our go-to choice for bridal hair and makeup (she was Anna Delores founder Emily’s stylist for her own wedding day makeup and hair!).
We asked Jenny to come over and share her tips for choosing what to do for hair and makeup on your wedding day. I see some brides who choose super-fancy styles for casual, outdoor settings, or wear their hair down for a windy beach day. Sometimes your initial ideas for what you love won’t work with your venue, the weather, or even the style of your wedding, so it helps to take those variables into consideration. I’ll let Jenny take it from here.
Make it personal
The trick to perfect makeup and hair on your wedding day is not simply about finding the perfect picture on Pinterest! There is much more that goes into selecting the looks that are best for you, and hiring the right professional will help you achieve this. The team at Blushing Beauty firmly believes that our job is not only to make you look and feel your best, but also to make personalized suggestions so you have the best possible hair and makeup results on your big day.
Plan for the weather + venue
The first big factor that needs to be taken into account for your wedding beauty is the environment you will be in. There’s nothing worse than piles of hair on your neck on a super hot day, or makeup that runs the minute you step out into humidity. When it comes to hair, aside from taking the temperature into consideration, it’s also important to consider the wind. Don’t wear your hair completely down if it’s like a wind tunnel outside. This also goes for those loose hairs around the face that we all love so much. If it’s a really breezy day, choose a style that will keep it from blowing in your face. That way, when you are standing up at the altar, you won’t have to keep letting go of your groom’s hand in order to get your hair out of your eyes.
Which base is best?
When it comes to choosing the right makeup, oil-free bases tend to be the best for everyone. They keep your skin looking fresh but not shiny, and can stand high temperatures, which leaves you looking flawless all day. If you are looking for something especially long-lasting, matte makeup is the way to go. It won’t budge and it photographs beautifully!
Consistency is key
Another thing to take into account when choosing which hair or makeup styles to wear on your wedding day is the style of wedding you have planned. If you are getting married at a ranch, garden, or a similar informal or outdoor location, an over-the-top style might not be the best choice. Choose beach waves, braids, twists, and simple updos for low-key events; for more formal affairs, be bold or super chic with extensions, tons of curls, volume, or a sleek bun with a big hairpiece. This rule goes for makeup as well! Enhance your natural beauty with soft neutrals for a beachy or rustic wedding, and go glam with lots of lashes and bold lips for an event in a ballroom.
The most important thing is to stay true to who you are and wear whatever you decide with confidence! This is your day and you should feel like YOU!
